  1. Leisel knows that she is not the only one in the Hubberman's who has nightmares and Max and her both love reading. Max has to stay in the basement all day and Leisel is not allowed to tell anybody about him. The book, The Standover Man is about how Max is was afraid of men overcoming him and telling him what to do, but after being there in the Hubberman's house he says "It makes me understand that the best standover man i've ever met is not a man at all..."(page 235)

  2. Max and Leisel are similar in many way's. They both have nightmares about the past and both share thier recent dreams with one another. they both enjoy reading though neither have really "owned" a book. At first, Leisel is shy around This strange man that is hiding away in the basement of the Hubberman's household. When they begin to exchange dream's, she realize's they are very much alike. Max rote a thirteen page book called "The Standoverman". It is about how he has always been afraid of wakeing up, because he is frightened about who might be standing over him when he wakes up. Then, he sees that the the greatest standoverman was not a man at all...Brynnie

  3. Leisel and Max are differnt because Liesel is a German who has great days and harely any worries, were as Max is a Jew and is forced to have worries, troubles, and the constant presure of being safe in a hiding spot. Leisel and Max are the same because, As Brandon said, they both cherish reading. Both have lost family members and share the same connection. When Max gives Liesel the book she has a diffrent perspective of the life of a Jew. He changed Leisel's life by showing her a diffrent side of the world , he showed her the not so peaceful side of the moment. CORI

  4. I agree with Brandon because, In the book Leisel and Max both have nightmares and both enjoy reading. I also agree because Max has a constant burden of being a Jew. I think that its true that after being in Leisel's house it completely changed some of the ways he thought of certain people and problems. That is all the reasons why I agree with Brandon. CORI

  5. Max has a complicated life compared to Liesel's. He seems to comfort her and she does the same. Liesel is similar to him. For example; with papa still in her bedroom,Liesel sat on the other side of the fireplce from Max as they swapped nightmares. they have completely different lives and yet it seems that they have so much in commen.

  8. I agree with Brynn's coment. It is very descriptive. Max and Leisel both live difficult lives and are afraid of each other at first, until they learn that they have many things in common. Leisel sort of felt alone and she always had nightmares, but then along came Max Vandenberg.

(One important difference I forgot to add in my originol post is that Max Vandenberg is Jewish and Leisel is not.)

  9. I agree with Cori because they both are so different and yet so alike. they both love reading and then again their worries are set aside from each other. Since Max is a Jew of corse they have extremely different lives but share the same happiness.

  10. I think that Max is different than Leisel because of their h, in which Leisel is much too poor to stay, and Max is taken. They are alike in the sense that they are both afraid that who they love is dead. They are very different and alike.

  11. I agree with whoever said "Max has a complicated life compared to Liesel's. He seems to comfort her and she does the same. Liesel is similar to him. For example; with papa still in her bedroom,Liesel sat on the other side of the fireplce from Max as they swapped nightmares. they have completely different lives and yet it seems that they have so much in commen." Because they both do have nightmares, and both of dead and most likely dead people.

  12. I think Max and Leisel both have hard lives. But, I think Max has a harder life because he is a jew. I think it is good they know each other because they comfort each other. They both have their differences but they are still very alike.
